A blockbuster trade in the Premier Lacrosse League. A deal sending Maryland Whipsnakes attackman Zed Williams to Philadelphia in exchange for Waterdogs attackman Matt Brandau is complete. Full terms Zed Williams and the 23rd pick in the 2025 draft for Matt Brandau and the 17th pick in the 2025 draft.
Williams is a former league MVP, who was tied for the league lead in scoring points last summer with 28. He was a 1st team All Pro in 2024 and the Whipsnakes second leading scorer. He'll likely join the attack with Michael Sowers and Kieran McArdle, giving the group a bigger physical presence and high powered shooter at the righty spot to pair with the explosiveness and feeding ability of Sowers at X. This could better balance attack scoring, as last season Sowers and McArdle accounted for 71 of the 89 points scored by Waterdogs attackmen.
Brandau was the 7th overall pick in the 2024 PLL Draft. In his final season at Yale, he recorded 101 points and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, capping a 360 point career that made him the all time scoring leader for the Bulldogs. Brandau only appeared in six games as a rookie, and managed just six points total in those contests. Brandau spent some time running out of the box for the Waterdogs, the trade could allow him to spend more time at his natural position of attack. Brandau was a balanced scorer at Yale, and if he finds his stride could from a dangerous young duo with Rookie of the Year TJ Malone.
