The California Redwoods have announced Anthony Kelly as their new head coach. Kelly is the second coach in team history, replacing Nat St Laurent who resigned last in early March. Kelly joins new general manager Joe Spallina to form the new leadership of the Redwoods.
Kelly is a native of North Olmsted, Ohio, and played college lacrosse at Ohio State. He led the program in ground balls all four years he was there, the only player to ever accomplish that feat. He played 17 seasons of pro lacrosse, both indoor and outdoor, with six All Star appearances and a title with the Denver Outlaws in 2014. In his outdoor pro career, he is second only to Greg Gurenlian in faceoff wins, totaling 1,820. He is eighth all time in ground balls. He most recently took the field for the Atlanta Blaze in the MLL.
Kelly has coached at the high school level, along with coaching stops at Denison, Harvard, and his alma mater. He is the founder of Resolute Lacrosse, an elite lacrosse program that trains athletes for field and box lacrosse, both boys and girls, in Kelly’s home state of Ohio.
